I've been saying it for a while, but it's getting closer.
Recently, a few small communities, frustrated by the lack of coverage by the other major media around them, teamed together and started their own newspaper covering their markets. The Forum, covers the communities of Deerfield, Candia, Northwood and Nottingham, NH.
Most of the stories are published online, with a printed version of the "newspaper" printed "as necessary". All news and editorial is written by citizen journalists who are unpaid.
Folks, as newspaper staffs keep getting trimmed, and people become more and more frustrated with the poor news coverage in their communities, this will become a bigger trend. News and information will no longer be owned by large media companies...but instead, by people.
A lot of people already go to blogs first for accurate information on political forums and events around town...but this will likely become more formalized.
Instead of having one daily "newspaper", we'll likely go closer to a world of having 3, 4 or more daily news sources...
Stay tuned.
