There has always been a bit of a gap between the wants/needs of people in the different parts of Missouri - -which is a very diverse state.
But yesterday's elections really highlight the different mindsets between rural and urban Missouri.
For Proposition B, the urban areas around Kansas City and St. Louis overwhelmingly voted in favor of Prop B -- an ordinance that has the biggest impact on the rural areas of the state.
For Proposition A, the two cities that were actually impacted by the law were the only two that parts of the state that voted against it.
While I realize this has always been the case in Missouri -- with the struggle between the vastly different needs of the state's two largest cities vs the largely agricultural rural areas - it seems like the gulf between the two has gotten bigger - with each side seeming to be more than willing to pass laws that largely impact the other group.
If the two groups could work together a bit more it might be a greater benefit to both groups.
