So one other interesting part of the meeting last Thursday night was the mention that the PIEA group had been waiting to sell of the empty building on Troost, along with the empty lot, because they were waiting for written notification that KCP&L would not be putting a new electrical substation in adjacent to the property that they control. The PIEA guy even joked that it wasn't good for sale values.
No joke.
So why is it that the city KNOWS that an electrical substation doesn't do much for sale values that the city is doing so little to help residents in Midtown and Westside neighborhoods keep substations from going up in their neighborhoods?
Meanwhile, they also had mentioned that an empty lot at the corner of 31st and Troost (pictured below) was going to be given to the ATA as a park and ride lot for the new Troost BRT.
Again, I guess a nicer, cleaned up parking lot is nicer than a lot that is overgrown with weeds, but a park and ride at 31st and Troost? No one is going to park there to head downtown. Maybe I underestimate how many people may use it to head out to the Three Trails Area if the Soccer Stadium/destination retail ever emerges out there. But I'm skeptical that this location is the best place for a park and ride...in fact, I'm not sure I get it at all.
