A few months ago, I wrote a post about the need for the KCMO school district to sell off many of its old school buildings that were no longer in use. Many of these old buildings, while not in use, were becoming delapidated and are becoming entire blocks of dead space in many residential neighborhoods.
Today, one such school, the Norman School at 3514 Jefferson, was recently sold, and is going to be turned into loft space. The old school, built in 1901, was just abandoned space in the Valentine neighborhood. That's cool.

In other news, UMKC has sponsored 3 new Charter Schools in Kansas City, MO for the 2009 school year. I have stated before, until the KCMO school district can figure out how the right the direction of the schools (including finding a superintendent and sticking with him),KCMO needs to promote their Charter school system to encourage young families to stay in the city instead of moving to better school districts in other parts of the metro.
