This coming week is an opportunity for Kansas City to shine. This week Kansas City takes the national center stage -- I hope we're up for the challenge.
On Monday and Tuesday nights, ESPN will be broadcasting games from the CBE Classic at the Sprint Center. Two of the nation's top college basketball teams, Michigan State and UCLA, along with two other good programs Missouri and Maryland will be in town for the tourney. Not only will the tournament itself be an opportunity to showcase the Sprint Center, but with the College Basketball Experience as the sponsor, it will undoubtedly be an opportunity to showcase the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Experience to the nation.
If that wasn't enough, you may have heard that there are two local college football teams that may have a pretty big game on Saturday. KU and MU will square off at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday for what may be the biggest college football game of the year. Yeah, that's not Hyperbole. That's not an alumn that has too big of an opinion of his own school. It really is likely to be the biggest college football game of the year. Kansas enters the game at 11-0, and will likely be ranked #2 in the Nation. Mizzou enters the game at 10-1, and will likely be ranked #3. They will square off at Arrowhead as the prime time game of the week for ABC.
KC will be on center stage this week. It should be fun...and will be a great opportunity for us to showcase what KC is becoming. For better or worse, this city is a much different place than it was 5 years ago...and the best of it will be on display this week. Take in a game. Mingle with the crowds. Enjoy the show. It should be a fun week.
Oh, and go Mizzou.
