Tomorrow is the first big trash pickup of the Spring. Big trash pickup in the urban core is always fun -- never has the phrase one man's trash is another man's treasure ever been more true.
It's also amazing what things get taken by people, vs what remains for the garbage collectors. Broken wooden slats from our privacy fence got taken away. Someone came by at one point and took the wiring out of two florescent lamps we left out. Someone else came by later and got the rest of the lamps, sans wiring. Old carpeting -- gone in a flash. My next door neighbors put out a whole batch of old windows and doors. Michelle and I snagged some of those with the hope of eventually using them as art frames. One guy came by on a bicycle, hopped off, and carted a couple of old doors home on his bike while he pushed it.
Meanwhile, my old recliner remains.
Urban recycling is fun. Nothing like setting a whole lot of junk out, grabbing a bottle of wine, and enjoying watching people sift through.
I'm happy that not all of it ends up in the city dump. I still wonder what people do with my crap though...
