I'm not sure if it happens to everyone, but it certainly happens to me. Every now and again the pace of life at an advertising agency gets to me and I feel burnt out. This summer may be the worst because a) I didn't take a summer vacation this year -- as we're doing it this spring and b) I've had a lot of activity in my personal life fighting off BSL at my local city council.
Thus, I've felt spent. This is also the reason that blog postings have gone down the last two weeks...tough to come up with topics when my heart hasn't been in it.
Fortunately, I work for one of the best companies ever -- and this week we took two days out of the office for our annual Creativity Symposium. For the Symposium, Barkley (that's our new name now!) brought in six of the brightest minds in the industry to talk about the industry, creativity, brands, and working together. Imagine the best guest speaker you've ever listened to in your field -- then imagine you listened to them six times. That was this year's Creativity Symposium.
I'll spend more time later talking about individual learnings from the Symposium, but let's just say that my tank has been refueled...and not a moment too soon. I feel inspired, and like I need to get back into it. That's the point I suppose.
I'm not sure if the best of the best get burnout...but I do. It's great when the timing works that it I get refueled when I need it most.
