The top 5 is my monthly look at the 5 most popular blog posts for the month based on data from Google Analytics.
The +1 is my pick as the post that I wish had made the top 5, but didn't.
1) A great new resource for police officers dealing with dogs -- The US Department of Justice released a new publication entitled "The Problem of Dog-Related Incidents and Encounters" -- and my overview of the document came in as the top story of the month. This is a REALLY great resource, and one that I hope will lead to fewer dogs killed unnecessarily.
2) When a lesson in dog bites becomes a lesson in discrimination -- an Oregon school Superintendent banned a dog from coming into a school for a dog bite prevention lesson. The reason the dog was banned is because the Superintendent didn't like the breed of dog it was.
3) KC Star letter to the Editor - - a woman who became very frustated about the dog adoption process writes a letter to the newspaper -- sparking a lot of conversation about the need for better customer service in animal rescue.
4) You never get a second chance to make a first impression -- The photos we take of our adoptable animals are often the first impression these pets give to prospective adopters....so we should do our best to make sure they get a chance to make a good first impression.
5) BSL is illogical - Mission Hills, KS Edition -- A small community with a pit bull ban has another type of dog bite someone -- so, their proposed solution? Ban Rottweilers.
+1
In an admittedly slow posting month, my +1 ends up being a +2 -- because I think it's significant that two communities across the country, Moses Lake, WA and Morgan, UT have repealed their breed bans this month, and the UK took a significant step toward repealing theirs -- showing again the growth in breed-neutral solutions to addressing dangerous dogs. Also, I really do like the Moses Lake story because it contains some information about a very well-written lawsuit that led to the repeal.
