The Top 5 is a look at the 5 most popular blog postings from the month of Apriil based on data from Google Analytics. The +1 allows me to highlight a post that I felt deserved to be the on the list, but didn't make it.
1) Seward County, KS Repeals 20 year old 'pit bull' ban -- The county made a decision to join several other Kansas Communities in repealing their 20 year old breed ban. Since this post came out, the county is again re-evaluating this and maybe looking at restrictions instead of a ban (or the current complete repeal).
2) So what is the Companion Animal Protection Act? -- A look at CAPA, a law that is gaining momentum across the country.
3) Aurora repeals ban on 7 breeds, keeps it for 3 -- maybe the most ridiculous legislation change ever
4) The latest on the shelter situation in Kansas City & how you can help right now -- We've had a LOT of changes taking place at the KCMO shelter -- highlighted by the fact that today is the first day the shelter will be run by the city in exactly 2 years. This is a temporary situation, but one that a lot of us have been closely keeping an eye on.
5) Missouri House approves HB 131 - What happens Next? -- The ongoing battle between large national animal rights groups, the Missouri's Ag industry, and the many of us caught somewhere in the middle and a voter initative that was changed in Jefferson City was big news this month. The final solution (for now) ended up with local animal welfare organizations, politicians, and the breeder groups, coming to the table for what ended up being a very solid compromise solution.
The +1 is a tough decision this month because there were several posts that I really liked (including this article about the science of domestication in foxes) that weren't terribly well read. However, this post about the increase in pet ownership in this country got posted on a Friday afternoon -- which is a bad time to post. So here's this month's +1:
+1 Pet Ownership grows...and pets become a growing part of our families
