Every month, I show the five most popular posts on the KC Dog Blog for the month based on traffic data from google analytics.
I then add a +1 for the post that I wish more people had read, but didn't make the top 5 list. Note that the early part of this month was dominated by the very controversial Prop B (the "puppy mill bill") in Missouri.
1) Missouri's Prop B supporters not out of the woods yet - the state legislature is now looking at possibly revising -- or even eliminating Prop B, which was a citizen's initiative that the legislature has the power to overturn.
2) Prop B passes in Missouri with 51.6% of the votes - and some thoughts -- some commentary on the urban vs rural divide in the vote
3) Public voices can save animal lives - Mimi returns home - - people spoke out in large numbers to help a man save his dog from likely being killed in the shelter after a suspicious complaint that the dog had bitten a neighbor. People's voices CAN make a huge impact on saving animal lives.
4) St. Louis Shelter's No Kill Policy saves lives -- new leadership in charge of animals in St. Louis means saving a lot of animals lives. Leadership -- and making the decision that killing is the very last option after all other options have been exhausted, is the biggest determiner of success for shelters.
5) Self deception and rationalization in Omaha and Denver - -both cities are struggling with their breed-specific policies and continue to try to dig their way out of the hole they've created vs just admitting their mistakes and moving on.
And the +1:
Shelter Appreciation Week/Shelter Reform Week -- which version is right?
A bill has been introduced to repeal Prop B
