The following are the Five most popular posts from the month of July based on data from Google Analytics. The +1 is the post that I wish had made it into the top 5, but didn't.
1) Only mean 'pit bulls' can make the Fox 11 News -- Good Day LA banned 'pit bull' type dogs from their daily Adopt-A-Pet Segment -- creating an outcry from the animal welfare community. Within a couple of days the station appologized for their error in judgment. Two weeks later, Buddy the dog made an appearance on the show.
2) Why is it so hard for the media to collect the actual data? -- a reporter in Omaha determines the city's breed specific laws are working by asking one of the victims of the dog bite that sparked the ordinance if she felt it had worked. The actual dog bite numbers show a 14% increase in bites since the incident.
3) Denver columnist confirms media bias in over-reporting stories about 'pit bulls' -- people think advocates make this information up, but even a skeptical columnist acknowledges that his newspaper is guilty as well.
4) Banning the sale of pets in pet stores - redux - this has become a particularly hot topic of late as cities continue to look at the idea of banning pet stores. An older post I did on this topic was actually the most viewed post on the entire blog for the month.
5) Does pay as you wish pricing have a place for animal shelters? -- several examples shows it does, without actually costing rescues money (and saving the lives of animals).
+1 The media races to be first -- skipping the facts in the process
I'm going to throw this one in too this month:The Department of Justice Tackles Breed Discrimination -- more bad news for Denver -- I think the timing of this post probably kept it from being more popular, but this is really big news.
