On Tuesday 8/3, Jackson County, MO has a primary vote for members of the Jackson County Council. If you are a pet owner in Jackson County, we badly need your vote for Dennis Waits.
I usually don't do a lot of politicking for particular candidates in this space, but this vote is very important. Dennis has been a good friend to the animal welfare community in Kansas City. His support on the council helped provide much-needed early funding to Spay/Neuter Kansas City so we can have a great, low cost spay/neuter option in Jackson County.
He has also been spearheading the plan to build a new shelter in Independence that wil serve Independence and Eastern Jackson County. The shelter will be completed next year and I strongly believe that his involvement throughout the entire process will be essential for it to be completed on-time and as promised.
If you need further incentive, Dennis' opponent has former Independence city council woman Renee Paluka White working on his campaign. White is almost solely responsible for breed-specific legislation in Independence that has led to the needless slaughter of hundreds of dogs at the shelter, cost taxpayers thousands of dollars, and not have any impact on public safety in the community.
So please, get out and vote tomorrow if you live in Jackson County. The winner of this race will run unopposed in the November elections so this is it folks. Get out and make your voice heard.
Dennis Waits is one of the main reasons I am planning on voting tomorrow :)
How can less then 20% of the city's population be expected to vote in this election? It's frustrating, people care more about federal elections, but they have SO little to do with day to day issues, PARTICULARLY doggie issues. As a woman it makes me sad to think how long and hard ladies fought to get women the right to vote, and now we can't be bothered :(
