From the Animal Law Coalition, HB 79 -- a bill that was introduced more than a year ago by Rep. Barbara Sears is now scheduled for a hearing in the Ohio Statehouse.
The bill would eliminate the clause in the state law that currently names all 'pit bulls' as potentially dangerous. While 14 US states have laws that PROHIBIT breed specific laws (and a few of those have found such legislation unconstitutional), Ohio remains the only state with state-wide breed restrictions.
The hearing is set for next Wednesday, April 14th at 9:30 and the Statehouse in Columbus -- Room 18. If you live in or around Ohio, you should try to attend and let them know that you support this bill as written.
If you can't attend in person, write to your state representative -- you can find yours sorted by zip code here.
It's way past time for the state of Ohio to get rid of this ridiculous law. More info here at the Animal Law Coalition.
Big news! I hope all Ohioans will get involved and contact their Reps.

I pray that the people in Ohio will turn out for this and support Barbara Sears in her effort to right an incredible wrong.

With Strickland as Governor, Kucinich as a Congressman, and the Cleveland (we'll make it happen next year) Browns, Ohio has enough to be embarrassed about. I can't make it to Columbus in the middle of a workweek, but I can write and call the folks who can roll back this silliness. Hope you will, too, if you live in Ohio.
