After a few weeks of discussion, the Jackson (MS) City Council Rules Comittee killed the idea of a citywide ban on 'pit bulls'. Council President Frank Bluntson said the proposal was unenforceable.
"You can't even pick up the dead dogs, how can you enforce it with the live ones?" he asked their animal control supervisor Gerald Jones.
The city was considering such knee-jerk legislation after a 'pit bull', that lived its life chained to a tree in the woods and who's owner was never found broke loose and attacked a 5 year old girl.
The folks in Jackson wisely seemed to realize that enforcing current regulations and focusing on containment issues was the best way to deal with their current problem.
Brilliant, congratulations to the City Council Rules Committee of Jackson, Mississippi.
Love Frank Bluntson's comment.
