Ashlynn Dawn Anderson died Sunday from a dog attack.
The girl was apparently excited about the garden that was being created by her mom and step father and went outside the house and into the front yard. While in the front yard, apparently one of the family's two Rottweilers had gotten free from the the back yard where they were normall kept contained and attacked the little girl while she was in the front yard.
The girl's mother was inside the house and looked out to see the dog on top of the girl. In spite of the quick response from emergency workers, the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Four months ago, the family had had a different Rottweiler that was removed from the home for being aggressive.
Ashlynn is the step-daughter of Jesse Browning-- whose logging company was featured in a TV series Ax Men. It was apparently Browning's dog that was involved in the attack.
This has been a devastating last couple of weeks. This is the fifth fatality in the U.S. during this stretch -- which is definitely disproportionate to what would be considered typical. Of these attacks, this is the fourth child under the age of four that has been killed just in the past 2 weeks -- with four different breeds of dogs involved. While many have tried to make this a breed specific issue, the diversity of breeds shows that this is clearly not the case.
All four incidents involved children who were unsupervised at the time around larger breeds of dogs.
Because of the girl's father's celebrity status, this story has been picked up by 250+ news outlets across the country.
My deepest sympathies go out to the family.
