This is quite possibly the most ridiculous story I've read today (vs some good competition). The City Council in Castalia, IA (population 160) is looking at passing an ordinance that places restrictions on 'pit bulls'. The ordinance would place leash and kennel requirements on owners of 'pit bulls', prohibit them from being tethered, wear muzzles and have liability insurance.
The reason for the ordinance is that there is apparently one known 'pit bull' in Castalia -- that has been running at large and is a concern to residents.
Yip. That's right. A city that is somehow unable to enforce a basic leash law to pick up a stray dog, is now enacting another law to deal with the same, one dog. Brilliant.
When will the ignorance stop? I think "pit bulls" have become the easy platform for cities to act like they made a win. When they ban the breed or restrict the breed, it is easy to say we have no more trouble with the breed since it was never a real problem to begin with. The city leaders then get re-elected because they claim they made the area safer and the citizens believe them. WAHOO!!! And the cycle continues...
