So I was reading my May issue of Ladie's Home Journal (don't ask) last week and came across this story about a deaf albino American Pit Bull Terrier named Duncan. Duncan was rescued from a drug house, nearly put to death, and saved by Hot Water Animal Rescue. He was later fostered and then adopted by Sabrina Brini.
Sabrina taught Duncan ASL -- and he knows over 50 signs.
It's a cute story, and worth the read. I've posted the whole story over at the KCDA Site -- it's called Signs of Love.
It's great that the 4 million readers of Ladie's Home Journal will get a chance to see the story. Have a great weekend. And if you don't have plans tonight, come join us out in Lee's Summit for our Draws For Paws event.
Great story, this brought on both laughter and tears. I will have to write a letter to Ladies Home Journal and thank them for this wonderful portrayal of a beloved breed and this beloved dog.
Wow - Ladies Home Journal, I am going to have to buy a copy for each city commissioner and King Reardon (oops - Mayor Reardon)of Kansas City Kansas. They need some education.

Great story.
Will definitely post back to this.
This belongs in the Pawsitive Press because it`s sure not going to be shouted from the rooftops by the Mainstream media.
Love the dog`s name.
Duncan
That`s cute.
BTW we have the date for the Ontario Appeal
The appeal will be heard on Mon Sept 15 and Tues Sept 16 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Osgoode Hall, 130 Queen St. West in Toronto. Room to be determined the Friday before.

I just read this article while I was on the treadmill at the gym today. LOVED IT! I definitely cracked up when they were at the adoption outreach and the woman, Sabrina, found something wrong with each prospective adopter, because she wanted to keep Duncan for herself! I volunteered at a cat shelter for over 5 years, so I know what that is like! Thanks for posting it on your blog. I've already forwarded the link to a few friends! - Kathleen

I found a deaf Pit, Lelou. She is very lovable and she's also sterilized and has all her shots. I run a non profit for the wellbeing of animals in Puerto Rico, but unfortunately we don't have a decent shelter to place her or any of the hundreds of dogs that are abandoned everyday. Our city mayor has made the commitment to build an animal shelter, but it won't be for another year. We need donations to continue helping the animals we rescue. Please, go to www.loveallcreatures.org and make a donation. You'll see Lelou's pic from the day she was rescued. Thanks and God Bless.
