Independence is apparently working really hard to increase their number of "pit bulls" that they euthenize with their recent pit bull ordinance. Here's an 87 lbs "pit bull" that is slated to be put down at the shelter. I'm not a vet, but been doing rescue long enough to realize that this is pretty much the standard height/color/build of the proto-type American Bulldog.
The best that I can figure is that there must be some bonus for putting down a certain number of pit bulls. They had previously put down this dog calling it a pit bull as well. It just kills me the thought of some person walking through the shelter and deciding seemingly randomly what dogs should be put down and which ones should based only on what potentially, maybe, looks maybe just a little like a "pit bull".
