Everyone love parades

Too_cool_bully On Saturday, several members of KC Dog Advocates marched in the Brookside St. Patrick's Day Parade.  We had several dogs walking with us, along with the folks from WOOF who are working to get a new dog park built in the Brookside area.  The KCDA folks also created a bit of a stir by taking a public stance in the local mayoral election in Kansas City, supporting Mark Funkhouser (our members are in the last photo wearing the orange bumper stickers).

This election is important to us because Al Brooks, his competitor, proposed BSL in KC last summer, in spite of he himself owning a three-time-biting Doberman Pincher (none of the bites have been reported to Animal Control).

Alvin did pet one of our pit bulls though -- I guess he didn't realize how dangerous it was while he was petting it. Whew.

Bully_n_beeds Parades are great fun.  The weather was great and it appeared that everyone along the parade route was having a great time.

There were several other dog groups in the parade -- some folks from the Sirius Animal Rescue, the Kansas City Canine Club, MABBR, and I believe a few others.

We were talking when we were down in New Orleans a few weeks ago for the Barkus parade how fun it would be to do a dog-parade similar to the Barkus parade in New Orleans...with dogs dressed up, people having a great time, and dogs representing themselves well as truly man's best friend. So in honor of our first really nice weekend filled of parades, dogs, and good times, I will leave you with a link to some of our fun dog pictures from our trip to New Orleans.

Ketchup_and_mustard Enjoy the pics.  And enjoy your pets. And if you get a chance, enjoy a good parade.  Happy Monday.

Even though I am not a resident of KCMO, where this mayoral race is taking place, I have a lot of friends from KCMO, that I knew I would be working the day after the parade. I took the opportunity to wear my parade shirt endorsing Funkhouser for mayor to the clinic. A lot of these folks were unaware of Al Brooks stance and I would say I garnered some additional support for the Funk campaign.
Even though the group I was volunteering with was at a cat clinic, lots of these folks own dogs as well. But more importantly many of these folks want to see the city's politicians make better decisions regarding animal welfare. Gee maybe some of these local policritters will see the light!
